Summer 2025 Update

It’s been a great year so far for Reality Survivor League! In addition to a Traitors US 3 league that went off mostly without a hitch, we also had 12 total leagues created for Survivor 48!

With the growing popularity, I think it’s important to start thinking about some more key improvements

App Performance

I still have a long ways to go, but I have been making progress on some key performance enhancements on the app. I’ll spare you some of the technical details, but this has essentially involved a full rewrite of some key parts of the app.

It’s something I’m looking to continue working on over the next few months, so if you notice any more performance issues, please let me know!

Authentication

Over the past couple weeks, I’ve been working on migrating all user accounts to a custom provider that I control. For the most part, you shouldn’t really notice any changes besides the login form looking a little different. There are a couple reasons why this change makes sense, but here is the gist:

1. I can now fully control the length of time you can stay logged in for before having to log back in. I will be configuring this to be much longer than the current default of 7 days, which I don’t have control over
2. As the website continues to grow, a hand-rolled solution will scale better than sticking with a third party provider
3. I’ll have more control over the look and feel of the login experience going forward

Existing email/Google accounts

If you have an existing account that uses email or Google login, your existing password or Google login will continue to work as normal

Dropping support for Facebook and Discord login

With these changes in authentication, I have decided to drop support for logging in with Facebook or Discord. To put it in perspective, ~50% of accounts use Google login, ~45% use email login, and <5% use Facebook or Discord login. With switching to a custom provider, it no longer feels worth the hassle of maintaining support for these two social connections.

Note

When you sign in with Facebook or Discord, the website will automatically prompt you to migrate to another strategy. If you have any issues, please email hello@realitysurvivorleague.com and I’ll help you out!

What’s next?

Looking forward to some more Survivor Leagues to close out 2025, with even bigger plans on the horizon for Survivor 50 and beyond! Here are some things on the immediate horizon to keep an eye out for:

• I will once again be running a Traitors US Survivor League. Who could say no after seeing the new cast?!
• We will also be trying out a Great British Bake Off league for the first time for this upcoming season. More details to come soon
